　　The xiao （箫; pinyin： xiāo; Wade-Giles： hsiao） is a Chinese vertical end-blown flute. It is generally made of dark brown bamboo （called "purple bamboo" in Chinese）. It is also sometimes called dòngxiāo （洞箫）， dòng meaning "hole." An ancient name for the xiāo is shùdí （竖笛， lit. "vertical bamboo flute"） but the name xiāo in ancient times also included the side-blown bamboo flute， dizi.The xiāo is a very ancient Chinese instrument usually thought to have developed from a simple end-blown flute used by the Qiang people of Southwest China. The modern six-hole form of the instrument goes back to the Ming dynasty.

　　The hulusi （traditional： 葫芦丝;simplified： 葫芦丝; pinyin： húlúsī） is a free reed wind instrument from China. It is held vertically and has three bamboo pipes which pass through a gourd wind chest; one pipe has finger holes and the other two are drone pipes.The hulusi was originally used primarily in the Yunnan province by the Dai and other non-Han ethnic groups but is now played throughout China， and hulusi are manufactured in such northern cities as Tianjin. Like the related free reed pipe called bawu， the hulusi has a very pure， clarinet-like sound.

　　Xun（埙） is an ancient porcelain wind-instrument. Most of Xuns is made from iguline. The earliest pieces of Xun probably date from Hemudu Site seven thousands years ago. The sound of Xun is endowed with emotional human feelings. When performing with Xun， one can feel the innocence of remote antiquity times， and the pathos of desolation. Xuns are classic and simple by exterior but are indeed beautifully shaped. As a great musical instrument， it also is a elegant chinaware.

　　Guqin（古琴）， It is a plucked seven-string Chinese musical instrument of the zither family with a history of more than 3000 years. The prefix "gu-" （meaning "ancient"） was later added for clarification. It can also be called qixianqin （lit. "seven-stringed instrument"）. Guqin has traditionally been favored by scholars and literati as an instrument of great subtlety and refinement. Guqin has always been viewed as the first place among the four Chinese high culture activities such as Guqin， Chess， calligraphy and painting.

　　The morin khuur or morin huur （from the Mongolian： морин хуур） or matouqin （from the Chinese： 马头琴） is a chordophone of Mongolian origin whose name roughly translates as "horse-head fiddle" in English. It is played with a bow and produces a sound which is poetically described as expansive and unrestrained， like a wild horse neighing， or like a breeze in the grasslands. It is the most important musical instrument of the Mongolian people， and is considered a symbol of the Mongolian nation.
